Enbridge Applies to the Ontario Energy Board for a Natural Gas Rate Increase as a Response to the Federal Carbon Tax

Enbridge Gas Inc., the 2018 amalgamated company of Enbridge Gas Distribution and Union Gas, submitted an Application to the Ontario Energy Board as an effort to recover the added costs associated with meeting its obligations under the federal Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act ("Act"). Starting April 1, 2019, the Act sets out a carbon pricing program that requires Enbridge to pay a carbon charge to the federal government for gas it delivers to customers. Enbridge stated that other costly obligations have already been imposed, as of January 2019, on Enbridge's nation-wide natural gas distribution system.
