Commercial and Industrial Demand for Natural Gas on the Rise

A telltale sign that commercial and industrial demand for natural gas is on the rise in Ontario and Canada is the number of sizeable growth projects currently underway with Enbridge (TSX: ENB). Among them are the TEAL and NEXUS pipeline projects, the latter being a joint venture with DTE Energy (NYSE: DTE), a Detroit-based energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services. The project in question involves the construction of a 255-mile-long natural gas transmission pipeline that would run in parts of Ontario, with a natural gas transportation capacity of approximately 1.5 billion cubic feet per day. Enbridge's TEAL (Texas Eastern Appalachian Lease) natural gas pipeline, part of which went into service in October 2018 along with part of the NEXUS pipeline, is capable of delivering one billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, enough to power over six million households.
