Bruce Power to Save $5 Million Per Month on Electricity for Ontario Consumers

Ontario consumers are expected to benefit from more than $5 million in savings per month over the next three years due to enhanced operational efficiencies at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, which is responsible for powering 30% of Ontario's electricity needs. These benefits were realized as a result of the framework set out under the Bruce Power Refurbishment Implementation Agreement with the Electricity System Operator (IESO). Pursuant to its provisions, any benefits from savings realized during the refurbishment and operation of the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station must benefit Ontario consumers. Previous benefits have included lower than expected prices for electricity generated from Bruce Power, with total savings amounting to approximately $150 million to-date for Ontario consumers.

Recent refurbishments and operational efficiencies are expected to increase employment by 22,000 jobs per year and generate $4 billion in annual economic benefits in communities through the province.
